Fit Mommy: Tabata for You

I tend to incorporate a round or two—sometimes three if I’m really in the zone—of Tabata after each weight training session. I lift three to four days a week and love the idea of incorporating a short interval of high-intensity training to compliment my strength regimen. It’s something that has worked wonders for burning fat from the more stubborn areas of my body.

You can truly make Tabata’s your own using just about any type of exercise; so long as you do them at a high intensity, you’re well on your way to reaping the benefits.

Here’s one that could be worth a try:

Fit Mommy: I Want a Six Pack Too!

I know I don’t speak for all women, but I think abs on a man are one of the sexiest things going. I love to see that gorgeous ripple effect flowing from the breast bone to the lower torso—coupled with the beautiful v-effect at the waistline that only comes from the deepest of muscles being worked to perfection.

Admiring such handiwork is one of my admitted weaknesses and I pronounce zero shame at the sheer surface level enjoyment I obtain from seeing such a masterpiece attached to the male form.

That said, that admiration works with women as well (although the effect is different) because I can appreciate the amount of dedication and hard work it takes for a woman to build and maintain such a lovely, trim, and cut mid-section—particularly after she’s had children.

Personally, I am still chasing that elusive dream of six-pack abs. I am close, but by no means am I there yet. So, when I came across this article this morning, I thought it was an excellent resource for those who, like myself, are looking to bring a six-pack of a different sort into the home.

…Want to know the formula for a six pack?  {(P + V ) X Sl} ÷ IE= Six Pack.  Protein (P) and vegetables (V)  add a high powered hunger suppressing punch with little insulin production. This means less calories and better hormone balance.  Sleep (Sl) magnifies this effect by lowering cortisol and increasing human growth hormone (HGH) a fat burning and muscle building hormone. Throw in intense exercise (IE) that favors weight training and interval training (more HGH and testosterone= more belly fat burning) over long duration cardio (more cortisol) and you start seeing the butter drip off. (Metabolic Effect, “So you want a six pack?”, metaboliceffect.com, 11/15/11)

That is just one of the highlights of the article  as it also delves into dietary choices, an exercise regimen, and some nutritional do’s and don’ts to help you in your quest.

Fit Mommy: Give Your Metabolism A Boost!!

You know how people are always saying the older you get, the harder it will be to burn off the calories because of your also aging metabolism?

Well, for those of you still hanging tightly to that as an excuse for why you haven’t put forth your best effort, here’s a little FYI for you—there is something you can do about that broken down metabolism of yours and it’s as easy as buying a pair of gym shoes and trading the remote for a pedometer or a set of dumbbells:

…Exercise is the key to a high-speed metabolism. This includes cardiovascular exercise and resistance training regularly. Cardio will burn calories during the workout and for hours after, while resistance training will build the muscle that eats up calories while you are doing things like lounging on the couch, working in your cubicle, running errands and sleeping. Resistance training creates the ultimate long-lasting metabolic booster. Build the muscle and melting calories will follow. (Team FitRX, “Speed Up Your Metabolism”, fitnessrxmag.com, 7/10/12)

The plain and simple truth of it is, you don’t need a 1000-word article to tell you the only way to burn off the pounds is to get off the sofa and do something—anything! That’s the only way to truly lose the fat and keep it off—so what’s stopping you?
